About

100 American Crime Writers (more about 100 British Crime Writers soon) is a reference book profiling the life and work of the best American writers of crime and detective fiction. It will feature an extensive introduction to American crime writing followed by 100 entries of 500, 1,500, and 2,500 words in length. Writers included are from the nineteenth century to the present day and are all born in or naturalised to the United States. They cover the full range of American crime writing, from “locked room” mysteries, to golden age murders, to pulp fiction, private eye novels, and police procedurals. The aim is to provide a readable, up to date guide to the best in the genre. The book will be published by Palgrave Macmillan in its Crime Files series in 2009.

The aim of this website is to provide sample entries, news about the project and in time, we hope, interviews with some of the writers featured in the book.

Chris Routledge and Esme Miskimmin.
